Director for Sci-Fi Pilot, Toronto

We need a skilled Director to bring our sci-fi drama pilot to life from day one. This independent production offers a compelling narrative set in a near-future Toronto, blending gritty realism with subtle speculative elements. The tone is suspenseful and character-driven, exploring themes of surveillance and personal freedom. We're looking for someone with a strong visual style who can evoke a sense of unease and intimacy simultaneously. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the producer and DP, leading rehearsals, blocking scenes, and guiding performances to achieve our vision. You'll be instrumental in shaping the creative direction and establishing the visual language for potential series pickup. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of directing experience, ideally with narrative shorts or pilots, and a strong understanding of genre storytelling. Please provide a directing reel demonstrating your visual acumen and ability to elicit powerful performances. While we are a small production, we will provide a solid production team, necessary permits, and a comfortable working environment. Gear will be sourced by the production. Shoot dates are tentatively set for the last week of October 2026, with about 5-7 days of shooting. Prep will begin immediately. This is a partnership opportunity, compensated with co-producer credit and backend participation.
