Editing for Documentary

Documentary Editing Chicago, IL entry Budget: $300-500/day

Hey Chicago filmmakers, I'm Marcus Tillman, a Foley Artist working on an upcoming independent documentary and we're looking for a talented, entry-level editor to join our small production. This project delves into the vibrant, often unseen, world of Chicago's underground jazz scene, featuring intimate interviews, raw performance footage, and archival material. We're aiming for a grittier, vérité style with an emotional core, so someone with a good sense of pacing and storytelling will be key. Your main responsibilities will include assembling rough cuts, incorporating feedback from the director, handling basic color correction, and sound sync (though I'll be coming in for the detailed Foley work later). Ideally, you'll be proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro and able to work from your own setup. You should have some prior experience editing documentary or narrative shorts, and we'd love to see your reel or samples of your work demonstrating your storytelling instincts. This is a paid position, $300-500/day, depending on experience. We anticipate the editing phase to run for approximately 4-6 weeks, with flexible hours. We'll provide all necessary footage and project files. Send over your resume and reel if you're interested!
