Gaffer (Mid) for Observational Doc, Chicago

Documentary Production Chicago, IL mid Budget: $250/day flat

Looking for a seasoned Gaffer for an upcoming independent documentary project in Chicago. This is an observational character study, focusing on the daily lives of Chicago firefighters, so a sensitive, low-key approach to lighting is key. We're aiming for a very naturalistic, almost invisible, look. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing lighting plans that complement our verité style, managing lighting equipment, and working closely with our DP. Experience on documentary sets is a must, particularly with run-and-gun scenarios and utilizing natural light effectively. Please have your own basic kit (stands, stingers, gels, flags, etc.) though we'll provide more specialized lighting fixtures as needed. Send over your reel or a link to relevant work. Shoot dates are approximate, ranging from late July through mid-August, with about 10-12 shooting days. Days will be 10-12 hours. We're paying a flat rate of $250/day. Meals and craft services will be provided on set. Come join a dedicated, small crew telling a compelling story.
