Sound Design for Documentary

Documentary Sound Design New York, NY mid Budget: Backend percentage

We need a talented mid-level Sound Designer to join our independent documentary production, starting immediately. This film explores the vibrant, often hidden, community of street musicians across New York City. We're aiming for an intimate, observational tone with a rich soundscape that elevates the human stories and musical performances. We've just wrapped principal photography, and now it's time to bring the sonic world to life. Your core responsibilities will include sound editing, dialogue cleanup, foley recording, and sound effects design to create an immersive and authentic experience. Experience with field recordings and music-focused projects is a strong plus. You'll need to have your own sound design workstation and software (e.g., Pro Tools, Nuendo). Please provide a reel demonstrating your documentary sound work, especially projects with complex audio environments or musical elements. This is a deferred compensation role with a backend percentage offered. We anticipate about 6-8 weeks of work, starting the last week of August 2026. This is a remote-friendly position, but we'd love someone based in the NYC area for occasional in-person collaboration sessions as needed. While this is a small production, we're dedicated to telling a powerful story and offering a meaningful creative opportunity. We're excited to see what you can bring to our team.
