Sound Design for Short Film

We need a passionate Sound Designer to join our independent short film production, a gritty sci-fi drama set in a near-future Detroit. The film explores themes of memory, loss, and technology, with a tone that blends psychological thriller elements with grounded realism. This is a crucial role, as the soundscape will be vital in building the immersive world and enhancing the emotional impact of our story. Your main responsibilities will include creating a detailed sound design plan, sourcing and recording sound effects, editing dialogue, foley, and atmosphere tracks, and mixing the final audio. We're looking for someone with a strong ear for detail and a creative approach to sound storytelling. Prior experience with short films or similar independent projects is a plus, and a reel showcasing your work is essential. Familiarity with industry-standard audio software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro) is expected. While we don't require specific gear, you should be able to deliver high-quality, broadcast-ready audio files. This is an entry-level position, perfect for someone looking to build their portfolio. The post-production schedule will involve about 3 weeks of work, primarily in September 2026, with flexible hours. We'll provide access to the edited picture and a dedicated workspace if needed.
