When do photo lenses beat cine lenses for documentary work?

Hey everyone, I'm Amara, a documentary filmmaker currently tackling a project that's incredibly fast-paced, covering protest movements. I've been shooting with a KOMODO and a set of primes, but the constant manual focusing in unpredictable situations is really challenging, especially when following fluid action. I’m finding myself missing crucial moments. The 'textbook' says cine lenses are king for video, but their weight and lack of reliable autofocus on my setup are becoming a real bottleneck. I've even tried rigging up follow focus units, but it feels like it slows me down too much. In what real-world, run-and-gun documentary scenarios have you found that the autofocus and lighter weight of a high-quality photo lens, despite its focus breathing, become the superior practical choice?
