Leveraging 8K Anamorphic Data for Reframing/Cleanup - Inspired by 'Dune' Look
Hey everyone, I'm Raj Patel, a working Focus Puller, and I've been really inspired by Greig Fraser's immaculate work, especially on 'Dune'. For an upcoming short film, we're shooting with a V-RAPTOR XL and Atlas Orion 2x anamorphics, aiming for a similar widescreen, cinematic feel.
Now, I understand the general concept of punching in with higher resolution, but I'm specifically wondering about the practicalities when dealing with 2x anamorphic. If we're shooting 8K 8:7 Open Gate (or similar, still nailing down the exact aspect ratio with the DP), what's the best workflow in post to leverage that extra resolution for subtle reframing or even artifact cleanup (like slight anamorphic breathing correction) after de-squeezing?
We're trying to maximize the flexibility this large sensor offers beyond just the initial wide frame. Has anyone here implemented specific techniques or workflows to really make the most of 8K anamorphic data for post-production adjustments? What's your approach?
