Wardrobe Continuity: Avoiding Newbie Pitfalls & Seeking Wisdom
Hey everyone, Camille Dubois here, Production Designer primarily, but I often find myself lending a hand or overseeing wardrobe on smaller projects, especially when budgets are tight. I'm always trying to streamline processes and share best practices with new crew members. We're about to tackle a period piece with a relatively green wardrobe department, and I want to make sure they're set up for success.
From your experience, what are the most common mistakes you've seen newer filmmakers or those taking on wardrobe continuity for the first time make? I'm particularly interested in pitfalls related to photo documentation (like not getting enough angles or details), inadequate logging, or mismanaging multiples and aging/breakdown. What's one critical, non-negotiable piece of advice you'd offer to avoid a continuity nightmare further down the line? I've stressed the importance of consistent notes and clear labeling, but I'm looking for those 'wish I knew this sooner' insights.
