Quick Compromise On-Set: Maintaining Visual Language Under Pressure
Hey everyone,
Tomáš here, working as a gaffer on a few narrative shorts lately. We put a lot of work into pre-pro, detailed lighting plots, references, the works. Usually, it pays off beautifully. For example, on a recent project, we painstakingly planned a night exterior with an AMIRA, aiming for a very specific mood with an Orbiter key and some PavoTube II 30X units for practicals.
But we all know how it goes: suddenly the sun drops faster than expected, or a streetlamp goes out, or the location manager says we can't rig a silk where we planned. When that meticulous plan goes out the window due to on-set realities (like losing daylight or a significant location issue) what's your quick mental process for coming up with a compromise? How do you adapt rapidly to maintain the established visual language and not just 'get something'?
