AB 2602 / Digital Replica Clauses: Practical Impact on Talent Negotations?
Hey everyone, I'm Tyler, a camera op. Currently on a pretty fascinating spot, a historical drama, lots of archival work, but also quite a bit of VFX involving digital doubles. We've got a few scenes where a key (living) performer's likeness might be used beyond the initial shoot. Then there’s also talk of using deceased talent for a flashback sequence, which is where things get really murky for me.
I'm primarily focused on getting the shots right with my ALEXA 35 and a set of Supreme Primes, but the conversations happening around the contracts are wild. Specifically, how have you all seen AB 2602 and the push for explicit digital replica clauses actually change the game in negotiations? I'm talking real-world, practical experience. Does it slow things down? Inflate costs significantly? Is it easier or harder to get talent on board given these new stipulations for both living and deceased performers? Super curious to hear what you guys have experienced.
