Gaffer (Doc)

Documentary Lighting Los Angeles, CA entry Budget: $200-400/day

Hey filmmakers, I'm an editor working on an independent documentary project and we're on the hunt for a talented Gaffer to join our crew in Los Angeles. This film explores the vibrant world of underground jazz, focusing on an incredible, unsung artist. It's a character-driven piece, intimate and soulful, so we're looking for someone who can help us create beautiful, naturalistic lighting that supports the story without overpowering it. The tone is observational and authentic, aiming for a cinematic feel that brings out the nuance of our subject's performances and daily life. You'll be working closely with our DP to execute their vision, managing lighting setups, power, and safety on set. We're looking for someone with a solid portfolio, even if it's entry-level work, who understands how to light for interviews and real-world environments with a small footprint. Please have your own basic lighting kit and grip package (C-stands, flags, sandbags, stingers, etc.). Shoot dates are flexible but we're aiming for a few days in late August and early September. Typical shoot days will be 10-12 hours. We'll handle catering and production insurance. Send over your reel or examples of your work and tell us why you're a good fit for this project.
