Gaffer (Doc, NY) - Partnership

Documentary Lighting New York, NY any Budget: Equity partnership

Hey everyone, Carla Mendes here, Makeup Department Head, looking for a talented Gaffer to join an exciting independent documentary project. This is a character-driven doc exploring an incredible local artist, focusing on their creative process and community impact. We're aiming for a naturalistic, intimate feel, but with elevated visuals that really make their work shine. This isn't just about illuminating, but about sculpting light to tell a story. Your main responsibilities will include collaborating with the DP on lighting setups, managing all lighting equipment, and ensuring consistent, beautiful illumination on set. We're looking for someone who can be resourceful and creative, even with limited resources. You should have your own basic lighting kit (some smaller fixtures, stands, gels, grip gear would be ideal). Your experience level can be anything from passionate emerging talent to seasoned pro, as long as you have a good eye and a strong work ethic. A reel or examples of your previous lighting work are definitely a plus. We anticipate principal photography to be about 10-15 days, spread out over early summer. Exact dates are flexible and will be scheduled around availability. Crew meals, transportation (if needed for specific locations), and production insurance will be provided. This is an equity partnership opportunity, meaning you'll be joining us as a partner in the film, sharing in any future profit or distribution deals. Looking forward to hearing from you!
