Screenwriting for Documentary
Hey everyone, Mei-Lin here. We're looking for a talented mid-level screenwriter to join our independent production for an upcoming documentary project. This is a character-driven piece, exploring an inspiring journey of resilience and overcoming adversity, with a tone that's both intimate and visually compelling. We're aiming for a strong festival run and potential broadcast. We need someone who can craft a powerful narrative arc, develop compelling interview questions, and weave together archival footage and verité scenes into a cohesive and impactful story. Your main responsibilities will include working closely with the director to outline the story, transcribing and logging interview footage, writing detailed scene breakdowns and interview scripts, and ultimately, delivering a polished final script. We're looking for someone with at least 3-5 years of experience writing for documentaries, specifically projects that focus on human interest stories. Please include a link to your reel or writing samples showcasing your past documentary work. This is a Toronto-based position. Compensation is $1000-1500 per day, dependent on experience. Shoot dates are TBD but we anticipate a 4-6 week commitment in Q3 and Q4. We'll provide all necessary research materials and office space as needed.
