Sound Designer, NYC Documentary
Looking for an entry-level Sound Designer for an upcoming independent documentary project in New York City. This film explores the hidden history of urban gardening movements and has a thoughtful, somewhat gritty tone, with moments of unexpected beauty. It's an intimate look at community and resilience. Your role will be critical in building the sonic world of these spaces, bringing the gardens to life and emphasizing the human connections. Key responsibilities include designing soundscapes, foley recording, mixing dialogue, and shaping the overall audio aesthetic. We're looking for someone who can work creatively within a tight budget and has a good ear for detail and atmosphere. Ideal candidates will have some prior experience in documentary or narrative sound work, even if it's on student films or small independent projects. Please have your own basic sound design software and be comfortable working independently. A short reel or links to past work demonstrating your sound design capabilities would be a huge plus. We anticipate a workflow of about 3-4 days a week for approximately 4-6 weeks, with flexible scheduling to be determined. This is a paid position, offering $300-500 per day depending on experience. We'll provide access to the documentary footage and clear creative direction, but you'll have a lot of creative freedom to shape the sound. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build their filmography on a meaningful project.
