Art Department for Short Film

Seeking an experienced Art Director for an independent sci-fi thriller short film, a moody piece focusing on psychological suspense in a near-future setting. We need someone who can translate a dark, minimalist vision into tangible sets and props, creating an immersive world on a limited budget. You’ll be responsible for overseeing all visual elements of the production design, managing a small team of assistants, and working closely with the director to achieve a cohesive aesthetic. This includes set dressing, prop procurement or fabrication, and ensuring all art department elements are ready and on schedule for shooting. We require an Art Director with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work on narrative films, especially in the sci-fi or thriller genres. Your reel should demonstrate your ability to create impactful visuals with practical solutions. Must be based in Los Angeles, CA, and have your own reliable transportation. Prep will begin around September 1, 2026, with an estimated 2-3 weeks of work. Shoot dates are approximately 5-7 days in late September 2026. Compensation is deferred, with a backend percentage offered. Meals and some local transportation for crew will be provided during production days. Please include your reel and resume when applying.
