Assistant Editor, Doc Project

Documentary Editing Los Angeles, CA entry Budget: Meals + copy

Filming wraps up in Los Angeles, CA this weekend for our independent documentary, with post-production starting early September 2026. We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Editor to join our small team on a volunteer basis. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to get hands-on experience in documentary post-production. Our project explores the vibrant underground art scene in LA, focusing on a collective of street artists preparing for their biggest show yet. The tone is observational and gritty, with moments of unexpected beauty, aiming for a festival run. You will be responsible for ingesting and organizing footage, syncing audio, creating dailies, and preparing sequences for the main editor. Basic knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro is a must, and experience with media management best practices is a huge plus. While no gear is required, familiarity with common editing software is essential. We anticipate about 3 weeks of work, potentially extending based on project needs. Hours are flexible but we're looking for someone available roughly 20-25 hours per week. Meals will be provided during work sessions, and you'll receive a copy of the final film for your reel. Please submit your resume or a brief overview of your experience, even if it's academic projects, and a short cover letter explaining your interest in documentary editing. We're hoping to make a decision by early September 2026, so please apply by October 23, 2026.
