Directing for Documentary

Documentary Directing New York, NY any Budget: $200-400/day

Hey everyone, I'm Kevin, an AD on a really exciting independent documentary project, and we're looking for a talented Director to join our team in New York. This isn't your typical talking-head doc; we're exploring a deeply personal story about overcoming adversity, told with a strong visual style and an intimate, observational tone. We're aiming for something emotionally resonant and visually compelling, somewhere between 'Free Solo' and 'Crip Camp' in its impact. You'll be responsible for leading the creative vision, working closely with our small crew, guiding interviews, and shaping the narrative arc during production. We're looking for someone with a strong storytelling instinct, an ability to connect with subjects, and a clear directorial voice. While we embrace all experience levels, please have a reel or portfolio that demonstrates your ability to direct narrative or documentary content, even if it's student or short-form work. Basic gear, like a DSLR or mirrorless camera setup, would be a plus, but we have some equipment available. Shoot dates are approximate, largely weekends and some weekdays over a 4-6 week period starting mid-spring, with flexible hours. We're providing a daily rate of $200-400. Let's make something impactful together!
