Camera for Documentary
Hey everyone, Victor from an independent production here. We’re gearing up for an impactful feature documentary based in Los Angeles, exploring the often-overlooked community of street artists. It’s an intimate, character-driven story, very observational in tone, and we're aiming for a raw, authentic visual style - think less polished, more visceral. We’re looking for a seasoned Director of Photography who thrives in dynamic environments, can anticipate moments, and isn’t afraid of a run-and-gun approach. You'll be primarily responsible for capturing all principal photography, contributing significantly to the visual storytelling, and collaborating closely with our director on shot design and execution. We need someone with extensive experience in documentary filmmaking, particularly in vérité styles. Strong interview lighting skills are a must, but your ability to capture unscripted moments beautifully is key. Please have your own camera package, preferably a mirrorless or small cinema camera capable of high-quality RAW or ProRes recording, along with a decent lens kit suitable for documentary work. Please include a link to your reel showcasing your documentary work, especially projects with a similar aesthetic. Shoot dates are approximately 30-40 days spread over 4-5 months, mostly weekdays, with some flexibility. This is a passion project, and compensation is a backend percentage, meaning we all share in the success. We’ll cover production expenses, naturally. Let’s make something real.
