Director, Music Video (Indie Hip-Hop)
Looking for a talented mid-level Director for an independent music video project in NYC. This is for an emerging hip-hop artist with a unique, storytelling style. We're aiming for a grittier, cinematic feel, less traditional performance video and more narrative driven. Think early Spike Jonze or Hype Williams, but on an indie scale. We have a compelling song and a strong concept developed, but need a director to translate that vision onto the screen. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the artist and producer on pre-production (storyboarding, shot listing, creative direction), leading the set during principal photography, and overseeing the edit process to ensure the final product aligns with our creative goals. Ideal candidates will have a strong portfolio demonstrating experience directing narrative music videos or short films, an understanding of visual storytelling within a limited budget, and a collaborative spirit. Please have your own basic camera package (DSLR/mirrorless, lenses, basic grip/lighting) or access to one. Shoot dates are tentatively scheduled for two days in late July (dates TBD, flexible). We anticipate 10-12 hour days. Deferred pay will be offered, with a commitment to back-end compensation once the project generates revenue. We'll provide craft services, transportation reimbursement, and a fantastic opportunity to create something truly unique with a passionate team. Please submit your reel and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience.
