Feature Film Sound Design New York, NY entry Budget: $1000-1500/day

Our independent production is seeking an enthusiastic, entry-level Sound Designer for an upcoming feature film shooting in New York City. This is a dramatic thriller with psychological elements, focusing on atmosphere and tension, so sound design will be crucial to its impact. We're looking for someone creative who can bring a fresh perspective to building our film's sonic world. Your primary responsibilities will include designing and implementing all sound effects, foley, and ambient soundscapes, working closely with the director and picture editor to achieve the desired emotional impact. You'll also be responsible for maintaining sound libraries and ensuring all audio elements are prepared for the final mix. We anticipate a workflow that will involve both studio work and potential on-location recording as needed. Candidates should have a strong portfolio demonstrating their sound design skills, preferably with examples from short films, student projects, or independent features. While we understand this is an entry-level role, a solid grasp of sound editing software (Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reaper, etc.) is essential. Please indicate what equipment, if any, you own and are comfortable working with, though we will provide necessary specialized tools and a dedicated studio space. The approximate work period will be 3-4 weeks, starting in late September/early October, with flexible daily hours based on project needs. Compensation is $1000-1500 per day, depending on experience.
