Sound Design for Short Film

A woman discovers unsettling truths about her isolated existence when a mysterious object crashes near her remote homestead. We are an independent production looking for a talented Sound Designer to join our team for an upcoming short film, a sci-fi thriller with psychological horror elements. The project explores themes of isolation, paranoia, and existential dread, relying heavily on atmospheric soundscapes and tension-building audio. This is a crucial role for us, as sound will be integral to crafting the film's immersive and unsettling tone. Key responsibilities include creating original sound effects, foley recording or sourcing, ambient design, and mixing all audio elements to create a cohesive and impactful soundscape. You'll work closely with the director to realize their sonic vision. We need someone who has their own sound design software (DAW) and a high-quality sound effects library. Experience with horror or thriller genres is a plus, and a strong sound reel showcasing your creative abilities is essential. This is an entry-level position, but we expect a keen ear and a proactive attitude. The post-production period is expected to run from early November 2026 through early December 2026, with an estimated commitment of 15-20 hours per week during that time, though flexible. Compensation is paid at $150-300 per day, depending on experience and scope. This position can be remote, but candidates in or around Austin, TX, are welcome for optional in-person collaboration.
