Gaffer for Sci-Fi Neo-Noir Short, Toronto

We're looking for an experienced Gaffer for an ambitious sci-fi neo-noir short film shooting in Toronto. This project has a distinctive visual style, blending practical effects with atmospheric lighting to create a gritty, futuristic urban landscape. It's a visually driven story, so your expertise in shaping light will be crucial to bringing our vision to life. Your main responsibilities will include collaborating closely with the DP to execute complex lighting setups, managing and maintaining all lighting equipment, and overseeing the lighting crew on set. We need someone who can work efficiently under pressure and find creative solutions within an independent production framework. Applicants should have 3-5 years of gaffing experience on narrative shorts or features. Please have your own basic gaffing package, including essential grip and electric gear. We'll be renting specialized units as needed. A strong reel showcasing your work on projects with challenging lighting requirements is a must. Shoot dates are currently planned for 4-5 days in the first half of September 2026, with an additional 1-2 prep days prior to that. We anticipate 10-12 hour days on set. We'll provide craft services, meals, and local travel expenses within Toronto. Compensation will be discussed based on experience.
