Filming in Auckland, NZ during the second half of September 2026 for approximately 5-7 shooting days, we are seeking an experienced Gaffer for an exciting independent short film. This is a compact, high-concept sci-fi drama exploring themes of memory and reality, with a visually rich, atmospheric tone. It’s an ambitious project that offers a great opportunity for creative collaboration and a strong addition to your reel. We need a Gaffer to lead our lighting department, working closely with the DP to achieve the film's intended look. Responsibilities include interpreting the lighting plan, overseeing rigging and power distribution, managing equipment, and ensuring safety on set. You’ll supervise a small lighting team and be crucial in shaping the film’s visual narrative. Candidates should have a strong understanding of various lighting techniques, equipment, and power requirements for independent productions. Prior experience as a Gaffer on short films or similar projects is essential. While we have a lighting package, familiarity with a range of gear is beneficial, and ownership of a basic kit or preferred tools is a plus. Crew meals, snacks, and transport to and from set within Auckland will be provided. This is a paid position, offering $500-800 per day depending on experience and scope.
