Gaffer (Mid-Level) for Sci-Fi Short Film
Hey everyone, I'm Destiny Brooks, a stills photographer, and I'm helping a director find a talented Gaffer for an upcoming independent short film. It's a really cool psychological sci-fi piece with some interesting visual challenges, focusing on a character grappling with fragmented memories in a dystopian setting. We’re aiming for a moody, atmospheric look with a strong emphasis on practical lighting. You'll be responsible for executing the lighting plan devised by the DP, managing the grip and electric team (likely a small crew), ensuring safety, and problem-solving on set to achieve the director's vision. We're looking for someone with mid-level experience on short films or similar productions. You should have a solid understanding of set safety, various lighting instruments, and power distribution. Experience with both natural and artificial light sources is a big plus. Please have a reel or portfolio showcasing your best work. While we’ll have some basic grip and electric gear available, it's helpful if you have access to some of your own specialized equipment or strong connections for rentals. Shoot dates are tentatively planned for late August, early September, spanning about 3-4 days in the Los Angeles area. Hours will be typical film set hours. This is a deferred compensation project, offering a backend percentage. Your creative input will be genuinely valued on set.
