Production Design for Feature Film
After an unexpected alien invasion during a small-town carnival, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to save their community from extraterrestrial menace. We're seeking a talented and experienced Senior Production Designer for our independent sci-fi comedy feature film. This project blends classic alien invasion tropes with quirky humor and a touch of heartfelt community spirit, requiring creative solutions for practical sets and props that look both otherworldly and grounded. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Director and Cinematographer to develop the film's visual style, designing and overseeing the construction of sets, sourcing props, managing a small art department team, and working within a practical indie budget. You'll be responsible for bringing our vision of a small-town carnival under alien siege to life, focusing on practical effects and ingenuity. We require at least 5 years of experience in film production design, preferably on features or high-end shorts, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to create distinctive worlds and manage an art department effectively. Experience with sci-fi or comedy genres is a plus. Please submit your reel or portfolio for consideration. Shoot dates are anticipated for the second half of October 2026, over approximately 18-20 days, mostly 10-12 hour days. Prep will begin approximately 3 weeks prior. The position is paid at $150-300 per day, commensurate with experience. We'll provide necessary tools and materials, and a dedicated workspace for set construction and prop management in the Los Angeles area.
