Production Design for Short Film

When a brilliant but disgraced scientist tries to reverse an ecological disaster, she accidentally unleashes something far worse. We're looking for a talented Production Designer for our upcoming sci-fi thriller short film. This project has a dark, atmospheric tone and requires someone creative to bring our unique world to life on a modest budget. You'll be responsible for developing the overall visual style, creating concept art, sourcing and modifying props, designing sets (including a key lab interior), and overseeing art department logistics. We need someone with entry-level experience in production design, a strong portfolio or reel showing your aesthetic and problem-solving skills, and ideally, familiarity with sci-fi aesthetics. While we don't expect you to own extensive gear, any personal art department tools or resources are a plus. Shoot dates are approximately late August or early September 2026, about 5-7 days of shooting. Pre-production will involve significant remote collaboration and some on-site scouting in Los Angeles. Compensation is $2000-3000 per week, and we'll cover materials, set dressing, and prop costs. This is a great opportunity to make a big visual impact on an independent production with a compelling script.
