Screenwriting for Documentary

We are seeking a Senior Screenwriter for a deferred compensation opportunity (points + deferred pay) for an independent documentary project, with delivery expected in late November or early December 2026. This film explores the vibrant, often unseen subculture of competitive synchronized swimming for adults, focusing on the passion, discipline, and community built around this unique sport. It's an intimate, character-driven story with a hopeful and inspiring tone. We're looking for someone to craft a compelling narrative arc from existing footage and interviews, ensuring emotional resonance and a clear thematic throughline. Key responsibilities include structuring the film, writing voice-over narration, crafting interview questions to guide further pickups, and collaborating closely with the director and editor. You'll be working mostly remotely, with occasional in-person meetings in Montreal, QC. We anticipate about 6-8 weeks of intensive writing and revision work, spread over a few months. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience writing for documentary features, a strong understanding of narrative structure, and a sensitivity to non-fiction storytelling.
