Senior Screenwriter, Documentary

We're exploring the unexpected lives of people who live off-grid in the high desert of New Mexico, capturing their resilience and unique philosophies. We're looking for a senior screenwriter to join our independent production, shaping the narrative of this upcoming documentary feature. You'll be instrumental in crafting compelling story arcs from interview transcripts and observational footage, developing a cohesive and impactful script that balances factual accuracy with emotional depth. Responsibilities include script development, structural outlining, character narrative refinement, and collaborating closely with the director and editor. We need someone with significant documentary screenwriting experience, a strong portfolio showcasing past non-fiction work, and a keen eye for finding the heart of a story. Previous experience with character-driven documentaries is a huge plus. This is a freelance position, approximately 30-40 hours a week, and we're looking to start around late October or early November, with some flexibility. We'll provide all necessary research materials, interview transcripts, and access to footage. Our small production company is based in Albuquerque, and while some remote work is possible, local candidates are preferred for in-person collaboration. Compensation is $300-500 per day, depending on experience.
