Financing Feature Films: When is a Single Campaign Not Enough?

Hey everyone,

I'm Luc, a Steadicam op here, usually working on commercials and music videos, lately with my V-RAPTOR XL. I'm starting to get more involved on the producing side of some indie feature work, and the financing aspect is a steep learning curve. We're looking at a project with a decent budget, let's say $3-5M range, a drama.

I've seen the traditional 'single investor' or 'crowdfunded until greenlit' models, but I'm trying to wrap my head around when that just doesn't cut it anymore. At what point do you absolutely need to start combining different funding avenues? Like, when does a single equity raise become unrealistic, and you HAVE to start looking at integrating tax incentives, bank loans, grants, or a mix of smaller equity investments? Is it a budget threshold, genre, marketability? I'm trying to understand the tipping point.

Thanks for any insights.
