Navigating monetization shifts: SVOD, AVOD, and Web3 platforms like BlockReel

Hey everyone, as a documentary filmmaker, I'm constantly thinking about how to sustain my work and reach audiences. I’m currently deep in post-production on a historical doc, pulling clips shot on my KOMODO and FX3, and the edit is coming together nicely. Up until now, my distribution strategy has mostly revolved around film festivals and pitching to the usual SVOD players, but honestly, the landscape feels like it's changing faster than I can keep up. I've been experimenting with short-form content on AVOD platforms, which offers some reach, but the revenue isn’t always reliable. I've even started looking into Web3 platforms like BlockReel, which promise direct-to-creator monetization and more control. I’m finding myself asking: how is the balance of power actually shifting between SVOD, AVOD, and these new direct-to-creator Web3 models? Are we seeing a real decentralization of distribution, or just a new set of platforms to contend with? Any insights from those navigating these waters would be hugely appreciated.
