Doc Director (Chicago) - Food Justice Project
Hey filmmakers, Drew here, a re-recording mixer looking for a talented director to lead an exciting independent documentary project. We're telling the story of food insecurity in Chicago and the innovative, local solutions emerging to combat it. It's a character-driven piece, aiming for a hopeful yet unflinching tone. This isn't just about showing the problem, but highlighting the amazing work being done right here in our city. We're looking for someone with a strong visual voice who can really connect with our subjects and tell their stories authentically. Your main responsibilities will include creative direction, working closely with myself and the small team to develop the narrative, guiding interviews, and overseeing the visual execution. You'll be instrumental in shaping the film from pre-production through to the final cut. Ideally, you have your own gear (camera, sound kit, lighting) or access to it, and a solid documentary reel showcasing your directorial style. Experience with vérité filmmaking and sensitive subject matter is a big plus. We anticipate principal photography primarily on weekends over the next 4-6 months, with some flexibility. This is a partnership opportunity, with compensation structured as a revenue share on the back end from festivals, distribution, etc. We're providing initial development, some production support, and of course, top-notch audio mixing. Let's make something impactful together.
