Directing for Documentary
Seeking an experienced Documentary Director for an independent production based in Chicago. Our upcoming project is a compelling feature-length documentary exploring the vibrant, often overlooked history of Chicago's underground street art scene from the 80s to today. It's a character-driven narrative with a raw, authentic tone that aims to showcase the passion and resilience of these artists against the backdrop of urban change. As Director, you will be responsible for leading the creative vision, working closely with the producer to develop the narrative arc, overseeing interviews, and guiding our small crew in capturing powerful, engaging visuals. We're looking for someone with a strong sense of storytelling, a keen eye for character development, and the ability to inspire a team. Applicants should have a minimum of 3-5 years of directing experience on documentary features or high-end shorts, a proven track record of bringing impactful stories to life, and familiarity with working in independent production environments. While we prefer candidates who can utilize their own directing kit, we are open to discussing equipment needs. Please submit a reel demonstrating your directorial style and narrative capabilities. Shoot dates are approximate and will be flexible, largely taking place on weekends and some weekdays over a 6-8 month period, beginning late spring. This is a deferred compensation role, offering a backend percentage of profits. We are a passionate, dedicated team, and we're excited to find a director who shares our vision for this project.
