Directing for Documentary

Hey filmmakers, James (sound designer here) reaching out on behalf of an independent production. We're looking for a talented and experienced Director to join our team for an upcoming documentary feature based in Austin. This isn't your typical talking-head doc; we're exploring a compelling, character-driven story with a visually rich, observational style. We need someone who can truly connect with subjects and craft a nuanced narrative. Your key responsibilities will include leading the creative vision, working closely with the producer, guiding interviews, and overseeing the field production in Austin and surrounding areas. We're looking for someone with a strong artistic voice and proven experience directing feature or high-end short documentaries. Please have a solid reel showcasing your directorial work, especially projects with a similar tone or visual approach. Experience with independent documentary filmmaking is a must. While we have some gear, familiarity with common documentary camera packages (e.g., C300, FS7) is a big plus. Shoot dates are TBD but looking at late summer/early fall.
