Directing for Documentary
Looking for a seasoned Director of Photography to join an independent documentary film crew in Cape Town. This upcoming project explores the vibrant underground art scene of the city, focusing on the stories and struggles of a group of emerging artists. We're aiming for a raw, intimate, and visually striking aesthetic that captures the energy and emotion of the subject matter. As our senior DP, you'll be responsible for the overall visual style and technical execution of the film. This includes collaborating closely with me on shot design, lighting, and camera operation. We're seeking someone with extensive experience in documentary filmmaking, ideally with a strong portfolio showcasing compelling verité and observational work. You should be comfortable leading a small camera team and have a solid understanding of various camera systems and lighting techniques suitable for run-and-gun scenarios. Please include a link to your reel with your application. Anticipated shoot dates are across 3-4 blocks of 5-7 days each, spread from late Spring to early Autumn. Hours will vary, often including evenings. While we have some basic gear, you'll be expected to bring your preferred camera package (e.g., specific camera body, lenses, light kit). Compensation is on a deferred basis, with a backend percentage offered. This is a passion project, and we're looking for someone who shares our dedication to telling powerful stories.
