Directing for Short Film

A haunting artificial intelligence questions its creator's definition of freedom. We're seeking a passionate and visionary Director for an ambitious senior-level short film production. This project is a character-driven sci-fi thriller, blending psychological tension with a thought-provoking premise, offering a unique opportunity for creative storytelling. Key responsibilities include leading the creative vision from pre-production through post-production, collaborating closely with the cinematographer and other department heads, guiding actor performances, and ensuring the film's narrative and aesthetic goals are met. We are looking for someone with a strong visual style, a deep understanding of genre filmmaking, and proven experience directing narrative shorts or features. Please provide a directing reel showcasing your best work. Experience with green screen or visual effects sequences is a plus. This is a partnership opportunity, offering a Co-producer credit and backend participation, suitable for a seasoned filmmaker looking to collaborate on a high-concept piece. We anticipate about 12-15 days of prep, followed by a 4-day shoot during early October 2026 in Toronto, ON. We provide camera, lighting, and grip packages, along with production support. Specific shoot hours will be 10-12 per day. This independent production offers a chance to make a significant impact on a compelling story.
