Directing for Documentary
Seeking a talented documentary director for an independent production filming approximately 10-12 days over 3-4 weeks in late August or early September 2026, paid at $150-300/day depending on experience. We're telling the compelling, intimate story of an elderly artist’s final creative project, exploring themes of legacy, passion, and the human spirit. The tone will be contemplative and observational, with a focus on authentic, unscripted moments. Your primary responsibility will be guiding the narrative, working closely with our small team to capture the artist’s journey. This includes interview direction, scene blocking for vérité sequences, and overseeing stylistic choices. You should have a strong portfolio demonstrating a clear directorial voice in documentary work, even if it's from student or personal projects. Please include a link to your reel. While we have some basic camera and sound gear, familiarity with common documentary production equipment is a plus. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running with creative vision and a collaborative spirit. Some travel within the Vancouver area will be required (reimbursed), and we’ll handle all location permits. This is a great opportunity to lead an emotionally resonant project with a dedicated crew.
