Director: Sci-Fi Thriller Short (Nashville)

Nashville, TN, January 2025, for a 4-day shoot on an independent short film. We're looking for an experienced director to helm a compelling sci-fi psychological thriller. Our story explores themes of memory, paranoia, and artificial intelligence, with a dark, atmospheric tone reminiscent of early Nolan or Cronenberg. This is a character-driven piece with a small cast and focused locations, offering a real opportunity for impactful visual storytelling. As our director, you'll be responsible for bringing the script to life, guiding performances, and collaborating closely with our small, dedicated crew (DP, production designer, myself as composer). You'll be expected to develop a strong visual language, provide detailed blocking and shot lists, and maintain a clear artistic vision throughout pre-production, principal photography, and post-production. You'll work closely with the editor to shape the final cut. We require directors with significant experience, ideally having directed multiple short films or features that have screened at reputable festivals. A strong reel showcasing your narrative capabilities and ability to evoke tension and character depth is essential. While we don't expect you to bring your own personal gear, familiarity with common independent filmmaking equipment workflows is a must. Compensation is $250/day flat, covering 4 shoot days plus up to 4 prep/post days, for a total of $2000. Lunch and craft services will be provided on set.
