Directing for Short Film

We are seeking a talented and driven Director for an independent, mid-budget sci-fi mystery short film shooting in Los Angeles. This project blends atmospheric tension with subtle cosmic horror, aiming for a distinct visual style and strong character performances. We need someone who can translate our vision into compelling cinematic storytelling. Key responsibilities include overseeing all creative aspects, guiding performances, collaborating with the DP and department heads, and maintaining the film's tone and pacing from pre-production through post. We are looking for a mid-career director with a strong reel demonstrating narrative proficiency and a unique voice, particularly in genre filmmaking. While we have basic production equipment, directors are not expected to bring their own gear. This is an equity partnership opportunity, meaning compensation will be a percentage of future profits and festival awards, with a commitment to transparency. Prep will begin around late August 2026, with an estimated 3-day shoot planned for around October 6, 2026. This is a passion project with a dedicated crew, so we’re looking for a leader who thrives in a collaborative, focused environment.
