Director, Sci-Fi Thriller Short (Sydney)

A young woman awakens to find herself the sole survivor on a seemingly abandoned deep-space mining vessel, haunted by a chilling presence. We're seeking a senior Director for our upcoming independent sci-fi thriller short film shooting in Sydney. This project promises to be visually driven and relies heavily on atmospheric tension and strong character performance, offering a fantastic opportunity for creative vision. You'll be responsible for bringing the script to life, leading the crew, directing actors, and overseeing the overall artistic execution from pre-production through the shoot. We're looking for someone with a proven track record in narrative filmmaking, ideally with experience in the sci-fi or thriller genres, who can work effectively with a committed team. Please have your own directing reel readily available. We are currently targeting a 3-4 day shoot in September 2026, with an additional 2-3 weeks of prep work leading up to it. This is a deferred compensation role (points + deferred fee), with meals and local transport provided during shoot days. This is a collaborative passion project we're excited to bring to life.
