Director, Sci-Fi Short Film

Short Film Directing Chicago, IL entry Budget: $150-300/day

Shooting in Chicago, IL for 1-2 days around October 2026, we’re seeking a talented and driven entry-level Director for an independent sci-fi short film. This project, tentatively titled "Echoes of Tomorrow," is a character-driven piece exploring themes of memory, regret, and the illusion of choice in a near-future setting. It’s got a slightly melancholic, visually stylized tone, blending practical effects with subtle CGI. We're aiming for a festival run. Your primary responsibilities will include translating the script into compelling visuals, guiding performances, and working closely with the Cinematographer and department heads to achieve the film's unique aesthetic. You’ll be overseeing all creative aspects on set, ensuring a cohesive vision from pre-production through the shoot. We need someone with a strong visual storytelling sense and excellent communication skills. Experience directing a short film or similar project is required, and please have a reel showcasing your directorial work. We're looking for someone who can make strong creative decisions while also being collaborative and adaptable. This is a paid position, offering $150-300 per day. All necessary production equipment will be provided. We expect 10-12 hour shoot days. Prep work will involve script breakdown, shot listing, and collaborating with the Producer on casting decisions, which can be done remotely before the shoot dates. We’re excited to find a passionate filmmaker to bring this story to life.
