Gaffer (Senior) for Indie Doc - LA

Documentary Cinematography Los Angeles, CA senior Budget: Credit + meals

Hey filmmakers, I'm helping a good friend, a talented independent director, find a skilled Gaffer for an upcoming documentary feature. This film explores the vibrant, often hidden, subcultures of Los Angeles, focusing on community and artistic expression. It's an intimate, character-driven piece that requires a keen eye for natural light and creative problem-solving on a nimble set. We're looking for someone with senior-level experience, able to lead a small lighting team efficiently. Your primary responsibilities will include designing and executing lighting plots, operating and maintaining lighting equipment, and working closely with the Cinematographer to achieve the desired visual aesthetic. Experience with diverse lighting setups, including practicals and available light augmentation, is a must. Please have your own basic lighting kit that you're comfortable bringing, though we will have some additional gear available. A strong reel showcasing your documentary or narrative work is essential. This is a volunteer position offering full credit and meals for shoot days. We value collaboration and passion for storytelling. Shoot dates are TBD but generally flexible weekends and some weekdays over a 4-6 week period starting mid-summer. We're aiming for roughly 8-10 hour days. Looking forward to seeing your work!
