Entry-Level Doc Director for Independent Film

Documentary Directing Vancouver, BC entry Budget: $300-500/day

Looking for an enthusiastic, entry-level Director for an independent documentary feature in Vancouver, BC. This project explores the unique challenges and triumphs of local community gardens, a story we believe will resonate deeply. The tone will be intimate and observational, capturing genuine human moments. As Director, you'll be responsible for guiding the creative vision, working closely with the Cinematographer (that's me!) to execute shot lists, and providing clear direction to our subjects. We need someone who can foster a comfortable environment and draw honest performances. Ideal candidates will have some prior directing experience, preferably in documentary or unscripted formats, and a strong reel showcasing their storytelling abilities. While experience is key, we're open to emerging talent with a fresh perspective. You don't need to bring gear, as camera, lighting, and sound packages are all covered. Shoot dates are approximately 15-20 days spread over late spring and summer, flexible to accommodate schedules. Days will typically be 8-10 hours. This is a paid position, offering $300-500 per day, depending on experience. We're a small, passionate crew and excited to find the right person to lead this project creatively. Please send your resume and a link to your reel.
