Screenwriter, NYC Horror Short

Short Film Screenwriting New York, NY entry Budget: $150-300/day

An independent production is seeking a talented screenwriter to craft a compelling script for an upcoming horror short film. We're looking for a fresh, unnerving take on a classic urban legend, focusing on psychological dread and suspense over jump scares. The tone will be dark and atmospheric, with a surprising twist. This project offers a great opportunity for an emerging writer to get a produced credit and contribute to a visually driven story. We're a small, collaborative team excited to bring a truly unsettling narrative to life. Key responsibilities include developing a concise script, approximately 10-15 pages, based on our core concept, incorporating feedback, and delivering within a tight timeline. We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of genre conventions, character development, and impactful dialogue. While no specific software is required, familiarity with industry-standard screenwriting programs is a plus. Please submit a brief cover letter explaining your interest and relevant experience, along with 2-3 short script samples (or excerpts) that showcase your ability to write engaging and character-driven narratives. Experience writing for the horror genre is a significant advantage. This will be about 3 weeks of work, primarily remote, with occasional check-ins in New York, NY. Compensation is paid, ranging from $150-300/day, commensurate with experience. We're aiming for a script ready for production around October 1, 2026. Please get your applications in by September 11, 2026.
