Art Department for Documentary

Seeking a dedicated Art Department Assistant for an independent documentary shooting primarily in October 2026. This is a volunteer position (credit and meals provided) with an estimated commitment of 8-10 days of work, spread across prep and shoot days. Our film explores the unique history of community gardens across NYC, focusing on the passionate individuals who cultivate these urban oases. It's a visually driven project, blending intimate interviews with observational footage, aiming for an authentic and grounded aesthetic. We need someone who can help source props, assist with set dressing (primarily for interview locations), manage art department inventory, and maintain continuity for visual elements. You'll be working closely with a small, collaborative team. No specific gear is required, but a keen eye for detail, a proactive attitude, and an ability to troubleshoot creatively are essential. Prior experience in an art department is a plus, but we’re open to enthusiastic newcomers eager to learn on a real set. A portfolio or examples of any visual work (even personal projects) are helpful, but not mandatory. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build your network within the independent film scene in New York.
