Gaffer for Sci-Fi Short (Entry Level)

Short Film Cinematography New York, NY entry Budget: Deferred pay

Hey filmmakers, I'm Damon, a Video Village Tech on an exciting independent production, and we're on the hunt for a Gaffer. This is for an ambitious sci-fi short film, about 15 minutes long, with a dark, psychological tone. Think 'Black Mirror' meets 'Annihilation' in its visual style. We're aiming for a really cinematic so your creative input on lighting will be crucial in building our atmospheric world. As our Gaffer, you'll be responsible for executing the lighting plan, setting up and striking lights, and ensuring safety on set. We're looking for someone enthusiastic, eager to learn, and capable of working efficiently. While this is an entry-level position, some familiarity with lighting equipment and set etiquette is a plus. We don't expect you to own a full lighting package, but knowing your way around common fixtures (LED panels, Fresnels, flags, etc.) is helpful. Please submit a brief cover letter explaining your interest and any relevant experience. Our approximate shoot dates are over two weekends in early October, likely 3-4 full days. We'll be based in various locations around Brooklyn. We'll provide all necessary lighting gear and transportation to and from locations. This is a deferred pay position, but we're committed to submitting to festivals and showcasing everyone's work. It's a great opportunity to gain experience on a visually driven project and expand your network in the NYC film scene.
