Gaffer (Senior) - Austin Feature Film

We need a senior Gaffer to lead our lighting department from day one for an upcoming independent feature film. This is a dramatic thriller with psychological elements, set in a contemporary Austin environment. We're aiming for a grounded, atmospheric look that uses light to build tension and reveal character. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the DP to execute the lighting plan, managing and supervising the lighting crew, ensuring safe operation of all electrical equipment, and troubleshooting on set. You'll be responsible for bringing your own basic lighting kit and grip package (specifics to be discussed, but expect a standard independent film setup). We're looking for someone with extensive feature film experience, a strong portfolio/reel, and a proven ability to lead a team effectively. The shoot is planned for approximately 25-30 days, primarily in October 2026, with some prep starting mid-September 2026. Standard 10-12 hour days, 5-6 days a week. We'll be providing production insurance, meals, and craft services. Day rate is $500-800, commensurate with experience. Send over your reel and a brief cover letter outlining your experience.
