Lighting for Short Film
Filming in Chicago, IL, this upcoming independent production is seeking a dedicated Gaffer for a 2-day shoot, aiming for late September or early October 2026. This project is a character-driven, psychological drama exploring themes of memory and loss, with a subtly surreal tone. We're crafting an intimate, atmospheric world, and lighting will be crucial to conveying the protagonist's fragile mental state. We envision moody, evocative lighting setups that enhance the story's emotional depth rather than overpowering it. Your key responsibilities will include collaborating with the DP and director to execute the lighting plan, overseeing the grip and electric crew (if applicable, or handling it yourself for a small crew), setting up and striking lights, and ensuring safety on set. We're open to all experience levels, from passionate newcomers eager to learn to seasoned professionals looking for a creative outlet. While we don't expect you to bring a full lighting package, any personal gear you have and are willing to use would be a bonus, though not required. Please share a link to any past work or a brief description of your experience, if available. This is a volunteer position, offering credit, delicious meals on set, and a chance to be part of a passionate, collaborative team. Shoot days will be approximately 10-12 hours.
