Lighting for Documentary

Exploring the vibrant, untold history of a legendary New Orleans jazz club and its enduring community. We are seeking a Gaffer (mid-level experience) for an independent feature documentary shooting in and around New Orleans. This is a unique opportunity to shape the visual narrative of a project driven by character and atmosphere, requiring both technical skill and creative intuition. You will be responsible for leading the lighting team, collaborating closely with the DP to execute the visual aesthetic, and managing all electrical aspects on set. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing lighting setups, ensuring safety protocols, managing gear, and troubleshooting on location. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of documentary lighting techniques, who can work efficiently with available light and enhance environments without overtly "staging" scenes. A relevant reel demonstrating documentary experience is essential. You should own a basic lighting kit, including stands, flags, and diffusion, but specialized fixtures will be provided. The approximate shoot dates are for 3-4 weeks starting mid September 2026, with typical documentary hours that can be flexible based on subject availability. Compensation is deferred, offered as a backend percentage. Meals and local transportation will be provided during shoot days.
