Director of Photography, Feature Film, Bristol
When a reclusive botanist discovers a sentient plant, she must protect it from a ruthless corporation that wants to weaponize its unique abilities. We are seeking an experienced Director of Photography for an independent psychological sci-fi feature film, shooting in and around Bristol. This is a character-driven story with a grounded, slightly surreal aesthetic, drawing inspiration from films like Arrival and Ex Machina. We're looking for someone who can craft beautiful, intentional imagery that enhances the emotional core and tension of the narrative. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the director to realize the visual style, overseeing camera and lighting crews, and ensuring the film's visual continuity and quality from pre-production through principal photography. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of narrative work, preferably features or high-end shorts, demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of composition, lighting, and cinematic storytelling. You should be proficient with current cinema camera systems (e.g., Arri, RED) and possess your own basic camera and lighting package, or have access to one for a favorable rental. A strong reel is essential. We anticipate principal photography will be for about 20-25 days, spread across the second half of September 2026 and potentially into early October 2026. Prep work will commence earlier in September. Shoot days will typically be 10 hours. Production will cover travel within the Bristol area, accommodation if required for non-local hires, and meals during shoot days.
