Mid-Level Doc Director, LA

This is a compelling, independent documentary exploring the resurgence of traditional artisan crafts in urban communities, focusing on three unique individuals. We're looking for a mid-level director to bring a nuanced, humanistic vision to the project, capturing the intimate stories and detailed processes of our subjects. Your primary responsibility will be shaping the narrative, guiding interviews, and overseeing the visual style in collaboration with the DP. This includes working closely with the editor during post-production to refine the story. We need someone with proven experience directing character-driven documentaries, a strong understanding of visual storytelling, and excellent communication skills. A reel demonstrating your directing work is essential. You'll need to be available for approximately 3 weeks of work. Shoot dates will primarily be in the first half of October 2026, with some additional prep and post work. We're an independent production, so this is a volunteer role offering meals and a copy of the final film. Location is Los Angeles, CA.
